Black Stories Black Voices at Barter Theatre
“BSBV’s mission is to tell and amplify Black stories and Black voices through playwriting, acting and all theatrical disciplines. With BSBV, we hope to help shine a light on the richness of the Black experience in the Appalachian region, and for this region, with plays, readings, and community engagement opportunities such as our post show events during our main stage season and our annual SHINE: Illuminating Black Stories event. Shine: Illuminating Black Stories Co-Director (2022-2024)
Co-directed an evening of artistic expression, where Black artists explore their identities and experiences in the Appalachian region we call home. Past events included original monologues, a screening of “Sound & Sole '' by Cara Hagan, Appalachian Storyteller Ronnie Pepper, t reading of a 10 minute play titled “Trains” by Quinton Cockrell and Kelle Jolle, an Appaliachan StoryTeller and Folk Singer.
Oct. 2023: Directed the full reading of “Trains” by Quinton Cockrell. This is the first play to go through development from a Monologue to a full length play through the BSBV initiative.
Directed three Black Stories Black Voices Appalachian Festival of Plays and Playwrights selections:
